A visit to the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre usually entails the following:

  1. A briefing (with slides presentation) of SBC’s functions and activities, namely the Traditional Knowledge Documentation Programme and the Biodiscovery (R&D) Programme. This usually takes 20-30 minutes, excluding questions and answers
  2. A walk-around tour of SBC’s R&D Facilities where visitors will be able to see SBC’s young research officers at work in the laboratories (Molecular, Microbiology and Extraction). The Laboratories are “clean labs” usually out of bounds for large groups of visitors. Work can be viewed through the viewing panels for visitors. However, arrangements can be made for small VVIP delegations to enter these laboratories. Alternatively special displays can also be set-up for VVIPs.
  3. A walk-around tour of SBC’s Laila Taib Ethnobotanical Garden which features some of the local plants used by Sarawak’s indigenous communities for various purposes (e.g. medicinal, personal care, and flavours).
  4. The walk-around tour of SBC’s facilities and ethnobotanical garden can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on the time that visitors have.

*Note: Light office wear/smart casual attire is advised for a visit to SBC
