The SBC team recently met with Professor Prof Pierce Chow and his team, Dr Wu LingYan and Ms Liang Ai Leng at the National Cancer Centre in Singapore.
Professor Chow is world renowned for his translational and clinical research programs in Hepatocellular Carcinoma. He is the Senior Consultant Surgeon in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) and Transplant Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital, and co-Director (Surgical) of the Comprehensive Liver Cancer Clinic at the National Cancer Centre, Singapore. He is also a Professor and Course Director at Duke NUS Medical School, Singapore.
Born and raised in Kuching, Sarawak, Prof Chow studied at St Joseph’s school. Later, he graduated from the National University of Singapore and subsequently obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1994 at the conjoint FRCSE/MMed (Surgery) examination where he was the Gold Medallist. He then completed a clinical fellowship in liver transplantation in Australia and was conferred his PhD for his research on liver blood flow and regeneration in 2004.
The discussion between SBC and Professor Chow’s team encompassed discovering bioactive plants from Borneo Sarawak, and exploring collaboration with his team in translational research and clinical trials in hepatocellular carcinoma and steato-hepatitis.
