Sarawak Biodiversity Centre is proud to collaborate with Microbiome Intl. Sdn. Bhd. and Fermetec Resources Sdn. Bhd. in organizing ICOBM-2018 with the aim to bring together and provide a platform for interaction and exchanging research ideas among experts from various fields of beneficial microorganisms. The conference will be held in Kuching, Malaysia from 30th July -1st August 2018 and will be attended by repute scientists, researchers, academicians, industrial professionals and postgraduate students globally.

The seminar exposed the TK communities to the concept of plant propagation, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), herbal product development and marketing strategies which will definitely help them in the future. Their strong support towards the documentation programme which is facilitated by SBC contributes to the success of biodiversity management and sustainable development in Sarawak.

This is the third group of students which Prof Peter Wimberger, Director of Slater Museum of Natural History in Washington, has brought on a visit to Sarawak since year 2012. Prof Wimberger is a Professor of Biology at Puget Sound, and the students are taking a class in "Biodiversity and Conservation in Borneo" which aims to equip them with an understanding of the complexity of the concept of biodiversity.

Regulation and Ordinance
Sarawak Biodiversity Council is given the responsibility to regulate research on biological and protected resources as defined by the Ordinance and export of the State’s Biological Resources.
To implement these duties, the Sarawak Biodiversity Council has put in place the Research Permit System which provides for four types of permits: Permit to access to biological resources for research and development, Export permit, Benefit Sharing Agreement for R&D, and Prior Informed Consent (PIC).

The Library of Natural Products
The SBC Natural Product Library derives its exclusive collection from unique species of indigenous rainforest plants, and microorganism from environmental samples including endophytic fungi, actinomycetes and algae.
From this pristine rainforest resource, SBC is able to provide a diverse library of leads-identifying natural products from the Sarawak rainforest for biodiscovery and research through agreements and collaborations.

An awareness and appreciation visit to SBC includes a briefing on SBC's roles and functions as well as a tour of its research facilities and the Laila Taib Ethnobotanical Garden. We also provide hands-on activities for students.
